MOCK TRADE SENDS BLAZERS’ MALCOLM BROGDON TO WARRIORS

The Portland Trail Blazers were quiet at this year’s NBA trade deadline, but now that the team is in the offseason, there’s reason to think the team may be more willing to make a move.

While the Blazers value Brogdon and his veteran presence, the team should listen to any offers they may get if it can benefit the team in the long run.

Bleacher Report’s Eric Pincus came up with a hypothetical three-team deal with the Golden State Warriors and Philadelphia 76ers.

In the trade, the 76ers would get Andrew Wiggins, the Warriors would get Brogdon and Robert Williams III, while the Blazers would get Kevon Looney and the No. 16 overall pick in this year’s NBA Draft.

Portland already has the Warriors’ No. 14 pick in the draft (assuming Golden State doesn’t vault to a top-four selection on lottery night), plus its own lottery pick with almost equal odds to the Charlotte Hornets at Nos. 3 and 4.

Getting another first (No. 16 from Philadelphia) may be the best return it can get for Brogdon and Williams. Brogdon, 31, doesn’t fit the team’s timeline and has a $22.3 million expiring contract. Williams is coming off a knee injury and has two years left on his deal ($25.7-$28.9 million, depending on incentives).

The Blazers will have an opportunity to cash in on Brogdon and Williams at some point down the line, but the cost may not be as high as the No. 16 pick.

However, it is a weaker draft class, and the Blazers already have two lottery selections, so it may not make the most sense to acquire another high pick at this moment in time.

As we saw in February, it will take a significant offer to trade Brogdon, and while the package for him is intriguing, it probably won’t be enough for the Blazers to hit the accept button.
