RANGERS CLAIM INGRAM ON WAIVERS

The Texas Rangers have claimed relief pitcher Kolton Ingram on waivers from the New York Mets, the team announced today. With this claim, the 40 man roster is now full.

Ingram, 27, is a small (listed at 5’9”, 170 lbs.) lefthander who was originally drafted in the 37th round of the 2019 MLB Draft by the Detroit Tigers. He was released by the Tigers in June, 2020, and signed by the Anaheim Angels in March, 2021. The Angels purchased his contract in 2023, resulting in him being on the 40 man roster, and he appeared in five games for them last year, putting up an 8.44 ERA.

Ingram was waived in February by the Angels, claimed by the Tigers, waived again a couple of weeks later, and claimed by the Mets. He is on his second option, has pitched in five games in AAA this year, and hasn’t been good so far.

This is, I think, simply a matter of the Rangers using an open 40 man roster spot to get a look at an arm for free. He could come up briefly in the coming weeks when the Rangers need to shuffle the bullpen to get a fresh arm up, but he’s more likely to end up back on the waiver wire later this summer.
